Birthday Party Planning Dos and Don’ts

March 9, 2015 Megan Stoeckel

You know exactly when your birthday is coming every year, which gives you plenty of time to plan for a spectacular birthday party New York style. And you’re going to need it if you want to book a hot venue and talented entertainment for the night. Of course, that’s only the first step if your birthday bash is going to be an over-the-top extravaganza. Here are just a few dos and don’ts to help you keep your party on track for success.

Do: Make it invitation only.

If you’re not keen to pay for friends of friends, hangers-on, and party crashers, it’s probably best to make your event invite only. This will give you a good idea of how to plan for space considerations, as well as food and drink.

Do: Create a theme.

There’s no better way to spice up a boring birthday party than by throwing a theme into the mix. And the sky is the limit here, so use your imagination and your interests to come up with a theme that is uniquely you.

Do: Use a checklist.

It’s all too easy to overlook details when planning a big event. Whether you prefer an app for that or you like to go old-school with paper and pen, having a checklist is a must.

Don’t: Invite out of obligation.

Sure, you could invite your boss and coworkers to your party, or your second cousin who happens to be in town for the weekend. But if you want to have a fun and frustration-free birthday party NYC, simply skip the obligatory invites and round out your guest list with family and friends whose company you actually enjoy.

Don’t: Drop the ball.

There’s nothing worse than a poorly executed plan. But event planning entails a lot of work, and if you’re not prepared, it can quickly get out of hand. So if a party is getting to be too much for you, cut it back a bit.

Don’t: Go it alone.

It’s your birthday, and the last thing you want to do is get stressed out coming up with 25th birthday party ideas New York. So hire some help. Whether you secure a promoter to help you get in clubs and book bottle service or you go all out with an event planner, you won’t be sorry when your party turns out great and you avoid the stresses of planning it all on your own.
