Forget stuffy galleries and long museum lines. New York City’s art scene has spilled out into the streets, and it’s thriving. This year, public spaces across the city are showcasing thought-provoking installations that invite people passing by to stop, snap, and reflect. Whether you're a lifelong New Yorker or just visiting for the weekend, these open-air exhibits offer a refreshing (and free!) way to experience creativity in the city. There's no shortage of quirky photo ops and deeper messages presented on the streets of NYC.

Wander, Wonder, Repeat: Where to Spot the Art

    • Rockefeller Center: Chamberlain’s metallic sculptures dazzle midtown with color and curves (on view through May 29).
    • Union Square: Love Continuum and The Space Between Us both play with perspective and emotion. Plus, there are limited-edition cookies at Newsbar.
    • The High Line: A giant pigeon sculpture named Dinosaur flips the birdwatching dynamic and honors NYC's iconic flying locals.
    • Central Park: Graft explores Puerto Rican identity with rejas-inspired structure and a quiet emotional punch.
    • Lincoln Center: Say hello to Hippo Ballerina, the bronze star of Fordham’s delightful sculpture garden.
    • DUMBO: Catch surreal projections lighting up the Manhattan Bridge Thursdays through Saturdays.
    • The Garment District: The Big Button is back and bigger than ever, celebrating the fashion industry’s roots.
    • Tribeca: Snap a selfie with NYC’s very own reflective Bean tucked into the “Jenga Building.”

The city is your gallery this summer. Go explore it one sidewalk masterpiece at a time.
